Music Makers

 

Join us for 4 days of creative music-making.  As a community, we will build a wooden xylophone (based on the amadinda from Uganda) and learn to play it.  We will also be making bucket drums.  Other daily activities will include improvisational music games, drumming, learning a few basic rhythms, and outside games.  The camp will conclude with a celebration/mini-performance with our newly-made instruments.

 

 

Ages:  8 and above are welcome

Instructors:  Frances Miller and Aron Weisgerber
Cost:  $125 plus $10 material fee
A $25.00 non-refundable deposit is due with registration

Frances Miller is a music teacher, performer, facilitator, composer and improvisational artist (violin, voice, viola, piano).  Her background includes classical music training through the Royal School, Pennsylvania Academy of Music and Oberlin Conservatory.  She has also studied Celtic, Cajun, Creole and Gypsy folk fiddling.  She has been hand drumming for the past 8 years and studied drum circle facilitation with Arthur Hall.  Her love of drumming and African percussion instruments is rooted in her childhood in East Africa.  She is currently working with David Darling in an improvisational music program called Music for People.  She has developed music programs within a juvenile detention center and a women’s shelter.  She has a passion for the ability of music to transform lives.

 

Aron Weisgerber is a graduate of Hearthstone School and of Prescott College in Arizona.  He has studied Adventure Education and Wilderness Leadership.  This is his ninth year of leading summer camps.  He is WFR certified, CPR and First Aid certified.  He is a wilderness leader and a Waldorf woodworking teacher.

 

Supply List

Bring a lunch, snack and water bottle each day.  Bring sunscreen, bug repellant, hat, swimsuit, towel, change of clothes and water shoes to keep at camp.
